Since today is a "spooky" day...

I love spooky things. One of my favorite holidays is Halloween because of all the ghost stories that start circulating. So going along with Halloween, I do feel a weird little thrill when Friday the 13th pops up. Not that I'm superstitious or anything. Anyhoo - since today is a "spooky day" I decided to do a post with roots (no pun intended) relating back to Halloween.

The week before Halloween, Melissa (also a lover of Halloween and all things spooky) placed a tiny pumpkin on my desk. She had drawn a jack-o-lantern face on said pumpkin with a magic marker.

Halloween came and went and I just couldn't bear to throw the pumpkin away. So, I decided to just leave it on my desk and see how long it took it to completely disintegrate... or whatever the hell it was going to do (implode, maybe?).

Fast forward to today. He's still going strong. Well, strong-ish.

Pumpkin Head says "I'm awesome."

I'm just still not ready to let it go... Who knows, maybe Pumpkin Head will be around for this year's Halloween.

  1. I think if you aren't careful enough, you will end up on an episode of "Hoarders."

    1. Sigh. I never thought it that way. Great, now I'm going to start cleaning my house and throwing EVERYTHING out. :)

    2. Missy cleaning the house... I can't believe it. In fact I doubt that will happen.

    3. Yeah, you're right. I'll be on the couch eating popcorn while YOU clean the house.

  2. While I'm impressed my the sturdiness of the little pumpkin, I find this completely disturbing that you have kept it this long. I would like to see monthly updates on the little guy.

    1. But Melissa gave it to me... I can't just throw it out. Plus, Pumpkin Head has been with me for so long he's, like, a part of me now. He helps me get through the workday. I will give you monthly updates on him.

    1. I know! I kept telling myself I needed to throw it out... but then I realized, I should just hang in there and see what happens to it. Believe it or not, it's not really squishy and it doesn't smell (if the pumpkin had either of those issues going for it, then I would throw it out. I promise).

  4. I adore your dedication to your friend, and think that these naysayers should lay off Pumpkinhead. You are a saint.

  5. Hahaha!! I'm famous, I'm famous! I'm so honored that I'm in this one! And that's right, you are a saint, and this is not gross, our love will never die! Haha! I agree with Jasonthat monthly updates would be fabulous. We can put little holiday decor with him in the pictures, as he makes it to Halloween 2012. Dang it, we just missed Easter, but I'll start looking for July 4th props.

    1. I can't just wily-nily throw out things that my Melissa gives me! Those items are sacred to me. Along with that lock of hair I cut from your head one day. :)

And, yes, we do need to get holiday props for Pumpkin Head. Hey, this coming Friday is Arbor Day! We can take him outside and put him under a tree.
